Vedic Yajna - What is a Yajna ?

One of the most unique features of the Vedic System are the Remedial measures. Vedic Astrology focuses not merely on finding the cause of the problems but also on the remedial measures to negate the effect of negative forces.

Rig Veda mentions the powers of Yajna. Since early vedic era Indians have been performing Yajnas to accomplish different goals and to negate the effect of evil spirits or planets. It lessens the negative energies of one's karma to bring peace, harmony and prosperity in his life.

Yajna is actually the essence of Vedas. In Vedic culture, yajnas were performed primarily with the purpose of creating harmony. This harmony refers not only to the issues of nature and the place of human beings within the environment, but also to the harmony within a human being. Deities (gods), as principles of life, natural phenomena or psycho-social tendencies in the human, were conceptually acknowledged and became instrumental to obtain the harmony the humans were looking for.

During the early Vedic period there were five great kinds of sacrifices namely brahmayajna, devayajna, pitriyajna, manushyayajna and bhutayajna as sacrifices to Brahman (the highest Reality), to devas, to ancestors, to human beings and to all living creatures respectively.

A yajna is a Vedic ritual, performed by Brahmins. It is composed of some systematic activities, such as lighting the fire, chanting of mantras, making offerings to the deity etc. The powers of mantras are nothing new to describe, anyone practicing it can see the results. On the other hand it is also well known that sacrifices pay off the debts of your karma in the alternate way than making you suffer. A yajna is always performed on an auspicious date, to bring the best possible outcome of this activity. A yajna has a very strong impact on the life of the native than any other remedies.

Undoubtedly, a yajna is the best remedy of all, and even it works as the most powerful. Rudraabhishekam Pooja - Rudra-abhishek - Lord Shiva Homam

Rudrabhishekam Pooja:-When Lord Vishnu incarnated as Sri Rama, he established a Shiva Linga at Rameswaram before crossing the sea and performed Rudrabhishek pooja to express his devotion to Lord Siva and seek his blessings. This Pooja, where Lord Shiva is worshiped in his Rudra form, is hailed by all Vedic scriptures as one of the greatest Poojas to remove all evils, to attain all desires and for all round prosperity. The Maha Rudrabhishekam is particularly performed for the sake of washing away ones sins and afflictions, for bringing peace, prospertiy and happiness, along with family togetherness.

Ekadash Rudrabhishekam Pooja:- This is a more elaborate Pooja of Lord Shiva. Shiva has eleven forms of Rudra. In this Pooja all the eleven Rudras are worshiped. After the aavahan (welcoming of the deity), sthaapna (giving seat to the deity) Laghu-nyasam is recited. Then Rudra Trishati is recited. Abhishekam is done to each of the 11 Rudras with all the 11 dravyas prescribed in the Shiv Puraana. Their 11 consorts are also worshiped . This homa is performed by 11 pundits and each pundit recites Sri Rudram 11 times - i.e. total 121 times Rudrajapa. Abhishekam is done to each of the 11 Rudras with all the 11 dravyas prescribed. Their 11 consorts are also worshiped . After the pooja Homa is performed with the prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are repeated. It ends with poorn-aahuti and shaanti paath. It is an excellent Homa for all round shanti and success in all undertakings. This pooja is exclusively done in the name of the Client and with his sankalpa i.e. - The specific purpose for which the Client is getting the pooja performed. As the name says, it includes the Pooja as well as the Homa or fire oblations.

Maha Rudram Yajna - Maha Rudra Homa :-This is a once in a lifetime yajna to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and an excellent remedy for all doshas and for all round success in all areas of life. All other rituals are same as in the above Ekadasa Rudra Homam but in this Yagya 121 pundits recite the Rudram 11 times each in one day - i.e., total 1331 recitals of Sri Rudram. Alternately, instead of one day it is also performed by 33 pundits for 4 days to complete the total 1331 Rudra japas. After that Homa is performed with the prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are repeated while performing the Homa - i.e., 133 more Rudra japas. Normally apart from the 121 reciting pundits 10 more extra pundits are included in the homa to look after the continuous process of abhishekam and passing the materials plus in case a pundit takes a break to drink water etc as it a very long Yagya. One must be very lucky indeed to get this Yagya performed as it is said that Lord Shiva and His consort Goddess Parvati bless the performer with all the 8 types of wealth. This Homa is performed exclusively after a PRIOR appointment.
